In American terminology, a graphic album is an anthology-format comic book with multiple stories that is published and distributed as a book rather than a periodical as distinguished from a graphic novel which has similar format but tells a single story.
In the 1980s comics scholarship started to blossom in the U.S., and a resurgance in the popularity of comics was seen, with Alan Moore and Frank Miller producing notable superhero works and Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes being syndicated.
Will Eisner was one who supplied foreign material, and in his retooling of the material to fit the comic book format Eisner is credited with inventing the grammar of the comic book.

 The 100 Greatest Comics of the 20th Century
That said, I wanted this to be a list of the individual books that had the greatest impact on the medium, and I think most fans would have a hard time arguing against the notion that the superheroes comprised the 20th century's largest comic-book genre.
The first comic book devoted to a particular theme debuts.
My standard answer is always this: "The book is worth what people are willing to pay for it." A mint copy of Action Comics #1, for instance, would fetch many thousands of dollars at auction because a lot of people recognize its extreme rarity and importance in American history.

Note the cleanliness of the linework, and how dynamic the action is. Now compare them to the inks in the actual issue (if you have it).
Nelson's inks actually tone the action down quite a bit, habitually mellowing Superman to a great degree each issue.
Essentially his name was added to the book to sell it...and that's a damn shame.

Money Man was Stuart Wales, who would go around to different towns every Saturday between 10-11am, and give £5 to the first reader, armed with last weeks issue of Action, and who challenged him by saying, "You are Money Man of Action, and I claim my prize".
There was Knowall, Milton Finesilver, who was a chap who answered all the readers obscure questions.
Stuart also wrote one of the stories which got cancelled, Probationer.

If you have kids who like reading comic books, (Spider-Man in particular) or drawing cartoon characters, this would be a good book to help teach them a few essentials, and it's pretty easy for kids to understand.
The author does present a section on how to make comic book women more "alluring" and for the most part it is a good chapter.
This is a pretty good book overall if you are trying to learn about new ideas in the comic book art genre.

His work, inked mostly by Nelson, was a lot of fun and had a great deal of storytelling to it.
My problem with Livewire as introduced in the comics isn't based on my preconceived notions about the character but at the way she was brought into the series.
Gail's ability to write the Lois and Superman relationship was a highlight of her run on the series and after the previous writer on Action, it was nice to have a writer on the book who liked the marriage enough to deal with it without having tension for the sake of tension between the two.
