 Arnor the Barbarian
Arnor has unkept brown hair and his face is pierced in several places by steel rings.
Arnor considers clerics of Telchur and evil outsiders his mortal enemies, due to their role in Vatun's imprisonment.
The cleric was summoned and, after listening to Arnor's tale, declared that the man in Arnor's visions was none other than Vatun himself.

Waiting for a king like you
Arnor could have fallen into an intellectual somnolence, in which each generation gradually shed itself of the burden of remembering the past.
He tells us that "after Earendur owing to dissensions among his sons their kingdom was divided into three...." We are provided no cause for these dissensions.
Their woodlands, a remnant of the ancient forests of Minhiriath, lay just to the south of Lindon.

Pale Fire is a novel composed of a poem of 1000 lines, a commentary written by a mad man that has almost nothing to do with the poem is comments upon, and a strange index that continues to provide more insight into the commentary than the poem.
Anyway, during the comments upon line 80 of the poem "[Here was] my bedroom[, now reserved for guests]", the madman, Professor Kinbote, quotes a couplet from a famous Zemblan poet, Romulus Arnor [1914-1958], in the original Zemblan.

[ Daily Tolkien ] Razing Arnor: How real were the Dunadan conspiracies?
We know virtually nothing of his reign or events in Arnor.
The events surrounding the curious division of Arnor don't really tell us much, either.
Hence, the fact that Amlaith began his reign as merely a King of Arnor may have given his brothers and their supporters a pretext for seceding from Arnor.

Eriador, like Beleriand, is a general geographic section of Middle Earth, wheras Arnor was the Northern Dúnedain kingdom which was located in Eriador.
I have read the LOTR, the Silmarillion an the Unfinished Tales, an I have not yet read anything about "The High King of Eriador" or something like that.

Encyclopedia of Arda: Dúnedain of Arnor
Nonetheless, their chieftains maintained the bloodline of Elendil's eldest son, and Aragorn - among whose titles was Chieftain of the D& of Arnor - was his direct descendant through many generations.
Before the end of the first millennium of the Third Age, the land of Arnor fell into dispute between the sons of King E&, and the D& who lived there became divided into three realms: Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur.
The North-kingdom of Arnor had originally held the capital of High King Elendil at Ann&, and the D& of that land were ruled for centuries by the descendants of Elendil's elder son Isildur.

Founded by Elendil after the fall of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, Arnor was divided into three smaller kingdoms after the death of Eärendur, the tenth and last King of Arnor.
At the end of the third age of Middle Earth, Aragorn son of Arathorn reunited the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor.

Arnor and Gondor - THE TOLKIEN FORUM
This in itself is enough of a difference to give Gondor more of a chance to survive than Arnor.
The fact that there was enough dissension amoung the sons to cause the division of the realm of Arnor into three petty kingdoms would seriously lessen the chances of the survival of the once great realm of the Dúnedain in the north.
I thought it might be interesting to get some ideas on the subject of the Fall of Arnor.

Arnor was originally the northern realm of Elendil; his sons ruled Gondor in the south.
Upon Earendur's death his sons Amlaith, Thorondur, and Aldarion divided Arnor up in to three smaller kingdoms: Arthedain, Cardolan, and Rhudaur.
However, after Elendil and his younger son Anarion fell in the Final Alliance, Elendil's heir Isildur decided to shoulder only his father's lands, leaving Gondor in the care of Anarion's son Meneldil.

 Aragorn's Ancestry
Although Isildur, Elendil's elder son, was first joint King of Gondor, he was on his way to take up the throne of Arnor when ambushed and slain following the death of his father, Elendil.
Aragorn's claim to the throne of Arnor can be traced through the tables of the Rangers, Kings of Arthedain and Kings of Arnor.
His position as heir to the throne of Arnor is straightforward, for the line is unbroken back to Elendil, the founder and first ruler of the Northern Numenorean 'exile' kingdom.
