After the Battle of the Five Armies, Bard gave part of his share of the dragon hoard to the Master of Lake-town, but the Master was a greedy man and he ran off with the gold and died in the Waste.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Ignited by Frodo’s kindness to him, one that is contrasted with Sam’s nastiness, Gollum is in an intense battle between two opposing personalities residing in his single body, the one that wants the ring and the one that wants the love and companionship that has eluded him for centuries.
Also, Gondor warrior Faramir (David Wenham) is a lot more like his brother Boromir, who perished at the end of the first installment, instead of his own man. This results in his dragging Frodo and company to the battle of Osgiliath, an event mentioned in the books but at which no major character participates.
Jackson departs from the book by incorporating an unnecessary battle with orcs and warg wolves just to enhance a subplot between Aragorn and Éowyn (Miranda Otto), the niece of Rohan’s King Théoden (Bernard Hill).

For example, Faramir's character was reduced to a bad copy of Boromir, and in my opinion, everything that made him noble and respectable in the book was removed in the film.
There were few mistakes that really bothered me. They did take lines from Denethor and gave them to Faramir, and I don't think the part with Aragorn "dying" was necessary.
There isn't time for the last chapters of either storyline, but there is time for Aragorn to fall over a cliff and drift down a stream.

He was Erkenbold son of Erkenbrand." And Boromir could only nod and reach out to grasp Théodred's forearm at that, because he had known Erkenbold, and had thought it could be him.
Boromir recalled the fell shriek, the black shape under the moon, and flinched despite himself.
Not even a whole month had passed from the battle of Osgiliath, in which Gondor had lost the last foothold they had in the Citadel of the Stars, and many valiant men with it.

Why add in that whole section when there was so much elsewhere that had to be cut out?
Another example: there's a line in the book which goes something like "eep!
I saw no point in going to Osgiliath; it just dragged out the story, which as far as I knew was the opposite of what most of the changes to the story were intended to do.

The result is that you see three battle scenes in the same time, and that’s absolutely amazing.
After leaving the Movie theater, the first thing you’ll be wondering about is the CG schizophrenic Gollum/Sméagol, which I think is the most amazing character in the story, and the one that you’ll be attached to most.
And I think it was the hardest movies to accomplish in the trilogy, considering the complexity in the story, the battle of Helm’s deep, and most of all, the creation of Sméagol/Gollum.

In the book this all explained instead of showed.
After Faramir takes Frodo to Osgiliath (something I take issue with, but that's beside the point here), one of his lieutenants comes up to him and tells him that the forces of Mordor have taken the east side of the river.
Osgiliath is on the west side of the river (look at a map of Middle Earth).

Website: http://www.ithilas.com/chezemma Summary: Inspired by the flashback scene from the extended version of The Two Towers, Boromir and Faramir after the battle of Osgiliath, before Boromir leaves for Rivendell.
The victory should have been shared; Faramir and his small band of Rangers had held the city as long as they could, retreating only when Boromir and his troops had relieved them to drive the evil forces of Mordor from Osgiliath.

Osgiliath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Founded by Elendil and his sons at the end of the Second Age, Osgiliath straddled the Great River Anduin at a point approximately half way between the cities of Minas Anor to the west and Minas Ithil to the east.
The name "Osgiliath" is Sindarin for "Dome of Stars", referring to the city's most prominent building, a great dome which once housed the city's Palantír.

In the early days of Gondor, at the end of the Second Age, Minas Tirith was originally built as Minas Arnor, Tower of the Setting Sun.
Osgiliath, which lay between, was deserted and fell into ruin.
To the east of Minas Arnor lay Osgiliath, Citadel of the Stars; it was the chief city of the kingdom in its time.

Gollum will lead you away from the battle at Osgiliath, but you don’t know how far you can trust him.
Arnold says that viewing their work taught his team “how much thought went into choreographing the battles in the films, and our designers made this a focus for the game.
You might have to help Frodo and Sam escape from the city Osgiliath, where Sauron’s Black Riders attack while astride monstrous flying beasts, or make sure Gandalf fulfils his pledge to aid the defenders of Helm’s Deep against an army of orc warriors, or even play as Aragorn during the epic battle on Pelennor Fields.

This is one of the more exciting Umbragen battle cues.
It's also a great example of collaboration as the opening Horn riff was from a bar of music in one of William Stromberg's battle cues and it inspired me to develop the idea further and this is what I ended up with.

The ideas behind it are certainly interesting, especially to anyone who played the underrated Battle Realms.
The game is due to go gold in just a few days, but the question remains: Can Liquid's LotR entry stand out with so many other things crying for gamers' attention?
The campaign explores much of the story territory that wasn't covered in the movies or the original trilogy and lets players take part in great fights that include the cleansing of the Tower of the Necromancer, the Mirkwood Elves' hunt for Gollum, and the battle for Minas Ithil.

The Two Towers: Extended Edition at Binary Bonsai
Jackson/Walsh/Boyens delivered exactly that; Helm's Deep comes off as a final battle although it doesn't receive as much attention in the books, and Frodo/Sam go with Faramir and risk losing the ring, but don't.
To get the budget approved and to be allowed to actually film these books in such a grand production, New Line needed a more coherent second film to justify the huge risk they were taking.

 Tolkien movies
We are shown the full power of the Ring in battle, and we feel that this is only a warm-up to what My Precious could do if it really got going.
In fact, the Battle of the Ents at the end of the film is another one of those great Tolkien moments that I have been anticipating.
If there is any negative side, I might only suggest that the battle with the Troll seems just a little bit to long,  but that is only my opinion.

GameBanshee Forums - Best Lord of the rings character
EDIT2: I also like Boromir, he seem like a somewhat badguy (or at least a weak person) in the first movie, something the extended material on Two Towers fixed, where you see him after the battle of Osgiliath, not wanting to go to the fellowship in fear of being corrupted by the ring.
EDIT: leave the poll as it is, now we can vote amongst all the characters, not only the fellowship + "other"
I see him as a real big brother type, protective and friendly
