Topic: Boromir (Steward)

 Boromir
Boromir, the heir of the Steward of Gondor, was a proud and noble Man who fought valiantly in the defense of Gondor and as a member of the Fellowship.
The brothers were quite different in temperament: Boromir was interested mainly in soldierly pursuits while Faramir, though also skilled at arms, was of a gentler nature and was interested in learning and lore.
Boromir spoke to the Council of Gondor's vigilance and the struggle to keep the forces of Mordor from crossing the Anduin.

Encyclopedia of Arda: Steward of Gondor
Barahir was the grandson of Faramir, though all we know of him was that he lived after the time of Aragorn, and that he was the author of The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen.
We know that the office of Steward was created by King Rómendacil I, so the first holder of the title must have taken up their duties before Rómendacil's death in III 541.
The dating in the Tale of Years therefore appears to be an error - probably a simple confusion with Belecthor's date of birth, which is given as III 2752.

And that is the truth Boromir had to face, when his father pointed out to him that he was not royal enough to be king.
The Stewards are thus charged with both preserving and understanding the ancient lore they have inherited from the kings.
While in his heart Boromir undoubtedly is not pursuing such a plan, the Ring seems to be offering exactly that to him.

 Paths of Peril
Boromir stared at Gondor’s aged ruler, struggling to keep from his face the amazement he felt at his father’s words.
Then, giving Boromir a strange, piercing look, he swept past the older man. The heir to the Stewardship of Gondor stood mutely in the doorway, dumbfounded at the change in the Prince.
He would have stopped her, but he was in his bedchamber in the eastern tower and there was no way he could have reached her in time.

 Boromir of Gondor
Given the travel itinerary, Boromir had it finished and stuck to only informing her of the birth in the event it had fallen into the wrong hands, for the letter would likely be trailing just behind her all the way to Dol Amroth...
With the few exceptions of answering random questions, Boromir found he had plenty enough time to take out book, ink, and quill...all in order to jot down his current thoughts into his very neglected journal.
Because when he had last talked to Miriel about it, the mere concept of sending them home and their "not being able to feed their puppies or children" (said with tears in eyes), had made him relent.

By nature, Boromir is very proud and arrogant.
Since the Council Boromir becomes very suspicious and skeptical – begins to worry about Gondor’s fate and Steward’s throne especially after Aragorn, a true heir to the throne, appears out of the blue.

The Captain and the King - Chapter 14
Then the Steward turned his blind gaze upon the King, and all those who watched thought that even he must see the light that wrapped the King about and shone from his lordly face as brightly as from the gems that adorned his crown.
For the first time, he spoke directly to Boromir, and it seemed to Aragorn as though the two men were alone, locked in a contest of wills that had nothing to do with the rest of them.
The more he observed, the more convinced he became that Boromir was not the same man who had attacked him on Amon Hen.

Lord of the Rings: Sons of the Steward FINAL! -- Neverwinter Nights Vault
Faramir, however, is a big enough man not to be blatantly jealous of his brother, and Boromir is in turn caring and protective of Faramir.
Unbeknownst to his sons and country, Sauron is preying on these fears by showing Denethor evil visions through a palantir (basically a crystal ball) hidden in Denethor's tower.
Mithrandir (AKA "Gandalf the Grey") - Known as the Grey Pilgrim, this crusader against evil has ventured to Minas Tirith at this time in order to rummage around for word of the One Ring (y'know, the one that all the fuss was about).

TheOneRing.net™ Barliman's Chat Room The Hall of Fire Log 04/12/2003 : Stewards of Middle Earth
Tonight we are focusing on the stewards of Middle Earth.
when we say stewards OF middle earth, i think we mean belonging to middle earth, not of middle earth as a whole....
<NerwenArtanis> I think what makes a steward different from a ruler is the fact that he or she cares more about whats to come after they're gone, while a ruler is rather interested in his or her own time.

Tightening his arms around his lover, Haldir watched him throughout the night, remembering all the smiles, the teasing, the sounds of his laughter,… and promised himself that he would find a way to bring all that back to the man he loved…somehow.
Merainas he knew but couldn’t do anything to stop what was happening.
Haldir turned toward his lover, pulling him closer and holding him tightly.  “I’m sorry, Boromir,” he said over his shoulder.  “He’s been through so much.  Just give him time.”

This is my Boromir in armour miniature which is made from a standard Boromir model from the fellowship of the ring boxed set, and based on the pictures of Boromir in osgiliath from the two towers extended edition DvD, a spare Boromir from Battle games in middle earth is great for this.
To start off, the model was cut into 8 seperate pieces, it was cut at the neck, the right elbow, the left elbow, the left wrist, the sword,(where it connects to his cloak), and the horn was cut out of his hand.

 Encyclopedia of Arda: Boromir
Eldest son of Steward Denethor II of Gondor and brother to Faramir, who set out from Rivendell with Company of the Ring.
At least, in The Etymologies (The History of Middle-earth Volume 5, The Lost Road and Other Writings III) this is given as the meaning of the name of Boromir of Ladros, and Appendix F of The Lord of the Rings strongly hints that the Gondorian Boromir was named for this hero of the First Age.
