 CHARACTERIZATION
The boundary between sympathetic and unsympathetic characterization is necessarily ill-defined.
Before you turn the page to the next chapter, one last tip on characterization: Remember that when you make a new world, the people in it must necessarily be the crown of your creation.
Rather it is to warn that "Show, don't tell" ought not be carved on the foundation stone of your house of fiction.

 Characterization in Literature
In the best of stories, it is actually characterization that moves the story along, because a compelling character in a difficult situation creates his or her own plot.
For example, Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, begun in 1387, has considerably more individualized and realistic characterization than does the anonymously-written Everyman, composed only a few years later; Shakespeare's works, written between the end of the sixteenth century and the beginning of the seventeenth, have superb characterization, while Pilgrim's Progress, written in 1678, has virtually none.
Unfortunately, characterization is one of the most difficult aspects of creative writing to master, because authors tend to naturally fall into the fatal trap of creating two-dimensional, cardboard characters.

 NPC Characterization
Inescapably, he is the mute eavesdropper on some scrap of conversation; or like the Jimmy Stewart character in "Rear Window," he observes something that he can't affect.
For a good overview of this topic, at least in inform, see Roger Firth's tutorial InfAct.
In order for evidence to be useful from a characterization perspective rather than merely as a bit of plot exposition, however, there needs to be a strong sense of the self of the writer lurking in the writing (or whatever it is.)

Characterization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thorough characterization makes characters well-rounded and complex even though the writer may not be like the character or share his or her attitudes and beliefs.
Often these can be shown through the actions and language of the character, rather than by telling the reader directly.
Characterization is the process of creating characters in fiction, often those who are different from and have different beliefs than the author.

 Writing Fiction - Character Development
Fiction writers generally come in two kinds: those who are strong on plot, and those who are strong on characterization.
Thus, even if you excel at great story premises, foreshadowing, plot twists, and careful pacing, you may still receive rejections with critiques pointing to ‘two dimensional’ or stereotyped characters; or perhaps it is your main characters’ motivations that are unclear or illogical, which ultimately sabotages the story.

Physical characterization involves inspection of the waste to determine its physical form, strength, etc.
Radiological and chemical waste characterization can also be inferred from process knowledge.

 Characterization
A concern with laboratory methods for characterizing hydraulic properties of porous media is whether the laboratory-determined properties are representative of field conditions.
In situations where chemical reactions occur that significantly affect the movement of water (such as the AFBC by-products), the hydraulic diffusivity curve should not be calculated by conventional theories based on capillarity.
TVA has conducted field and laboratory studies to check the representativeness of the laboratory measured parameters.

 Knowledge Integrity: Characterization Taxonomies
A classic example related to the media industry is characterizing radio or television ratings by sex and age groups, such as "most popular with males aged 18 to 35." Here, there is a multidimensional classification scheme - first the population is divided by gender, then each gender group is broken into age ranges.
A natural application of a business intelligence (BI) application is to attempt to understand individual behavior based on an enveloping classification scheme.
In turn, performance is assessed based on the ratings for specific "products" within what is considered to be a simple taxonomy.
