 Journeys to Dune: Reviews
The parallel story of Farad'n, the grandson of Emperor Shaddam (who was defeated by Paul), also deepens the meaning of the story and its consideration of power.
Of the twins, Leto has become the ruler of the galactic empire, in a new kind of body that is not quite human.
But in that book, Paul falls into line -- he follows his vision, he goes through his rite of passage and conquers everybody else in the universe.

Muad'dib's realisation that he is trapped by his own ability to see the future, not to mention the way salvation paves the way to a bloodbath, makes part one a gripping opener.
Alec Newman returns as Muad'dib and while he was good in the original, this time he really gets to show off his range.
Under Paul Muad'dib's rule as Emperor, the planet Arrakis has enjoyed a renaissance.

: RevolutionSF - Frank Herbert's Children of Dune : Review
John Harrison's adaptation of Frank Herbert's fantastic character study of the dangers of messiah-hood was utterly compelling.
Again, Ian McNeice steals every scene he's in as the deceased Baron Harkonnen (oh, how this mini could've benefited from a good dose of over-the-top Harkonnens!), but Barbara Kodetova and Alec Newman have little to do in their limited roles, which is a pity.
At least all of them that had been written by that point, along with other works of his like "Whipping Star" and "The White Plague." At the advice of friends whose opinions I respected, however, I only read the first "Dune" book.

He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family - and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.
I think Herbert's ability to captivate the reader with non-action is what really sets these novels apart.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for that 'spice' in science fiction literature.

Children of Dune, like all good epics, spans many years and introduces a plethora of colorful supporting characters.
Alec Newman is back as Paul Atreides, who has overthrown the evil emperor of planet Arrakis and assumed the throne with faithful wife, Irulan (Julie Cox), at his side.
Pretty decent adaptation of the book until the ending...forget the trown scene at the end...and if you have not read to book, then there is no way in heck you are going to understand what is going on the last part of the movie....

 SoundtrackNet : Children of Dune
Graeme Revell's score for the Sci Fi Channel's Dune (2000) was somewhat of a poor accompaniment to the epic tale by Frank Herbert brought to life in a five hour mini-series.
Some standout cues include the percussive "My Skin Is Not My Own", the fanfare of "The Arrival of Lady Jessica", and the thematic "Main Titles (House Atreides)".
While Revell established an ethnic soundscape for the Dune world in the first mini-series, Tyler takes it further by adding more ethnic instruments, some of which he made himself and performed along with percussion and vocals.

Overall, the entire epic story is an interesting one for philosophical reasonings, political intrigues, and religious issues.

Children of Dune (TV miniseries) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leto, emotionally isolated from his sister due to his transformation, becomes the God Emperor, Leto II.
Just as the first chapter in this miniseries was considered more faithful to the novels than the movies that preceded it, Children of Dune worked to correct the mistakes of its own predecessor.
It's important to note that the name of the miniseries is somewhat of a misnomer, because the miniseries doesn't portray the events of the novel Children of Dune until its second and third parts; the first part is a (reasonably faithful) adaptation of the actual sequel to Dune, the novel Dune Messiah.

Frank Herbert's Children Of Dune Sci-Fi Channel Original Miniseries Review
If Paul Atreides was in a sense like Moses delivering the Israelites from the oppression of Pharaoh in “Frank Herbert’s Dune,” here he takes on a role sort of like “John The Baptist” paving the way for Leto II whose destiny and price for saving humanity also requires a supreme life altering sacrifice.
By the end of “Frank Herbert’s Children Of Dune” the viewer is left with a sense of closure as well as a hint of what is to come if Sci-Fi should produce a third miniseries based on the fourth book in “The Dune Chronicles” entitled “God Emperor Of Dune,” which I hope they will.
Frank Herbert’s “Dune Chronicles” are among the most popular series of science fiction novels ever written.

Children Of Dune by Brian Tyler @ Cinemusic
The theme is twisted again, ramping up from a slow brass read into a brisk and strident rendition with rattling percussion in "The Revolution".
Moments to look out for include "The Throne Of Alia", with it's tenuous duet of duduk and solo female voice, "My Skin Is Not My Own" which unleashes an arsenal of percussion and grooves, and "The Preacher At Arrakeen", which features another appearance of the duduk but also solo male voice.
With the Children Of Dune mini-series clocking in at over three hours, the score has been distilled into one album, making a surprisingly cohesive package, one where there's always something interesting transpiring -- which is important, because this album runs north of sixty-seven minutes (i.e., a long time).

Rather than Toto's rock chorus or Graeme Revell's distinctly underwhelming synth meandering, Tyler goes for a huge, orchestral onslaught, with more than a dash of world music type percussion.
Similarly, several of the central tracks have a distinctly Zimmer inspired mixture of percussion and what sounds like a Duduk (of the north?).
For the first third, rarely a track goes by without at least one tumultuous orchestral swell, Tyler endlessly striving for a dignified gravitas as if every action is an earth (or dune) shattering moment, but the quality is enforced by a fairly original sound.
