Tolkien's epic world is populated by elves, dwarves, magicians, and evil monsters.
Tolkien's Catholicism does not appear overtly in the book.
Most of the inhabitants of Tolkien's imaginary Middle-Earth are derived from English folklore and mythology, or from an idealized Anglo-Saxon past.

He regarded The Silmarillion as the most important of his work, seeing in its tales not only the genesis of Middle-earth and later events as told in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but the entire core of his legendarium.
Clowes and Sons had kept the first 1000 copies of the first edition off the press in 1977 to create this limited edition, 100 of which were signed by Christopher Tolkien.
I'll try to tell more on this book, The Silmarillion, it's origin and all on collecting this marvellous work, ranging from limited to translated editions.

 The Encyclopedia of Arda: Disclaimer and Bibliography
This presents a particular problem in compiling an encyclopedic work such as this site: it cannot be possible to be completely truthful to Tolkien's vision, because that vision never achieved a complete and unified whole during his lifetime.
This is not to say that an Encyclopedia of the Lost Tales, say, wouldn't be a fascinating undertaking in itself, but it isn't what this site's about.
We don't intend to provide entries for subjects that appear only among the volumes of The History of Middle-earth.

 Christopher Tolkien - definition of Christopher Tolkien in Encyclopedia
Tolkien, and as the editor of much of his father's posthumously published work.
Christopher himself had the task of interpreting his father's sometimes self-contradictory maps of Middle-earth in order to produce the versions used in the books.
Nevertheless, working with Guy Gavriel Kay, he was able to publish The Silmarillion in 1977, followed by the twelve volumes of The History of Middle-earth between 1983 and 1996.
