The creature slew Durin VI and his son Náin I, and after a year of struggle drove Durin's Folk away from Khazad-dûm.
Durin's Folk steadfastly fought Sauron, and often allied with Men and Elves against him (after destruction of Eregion in II Age, in the Last Alliance, and in War of the Ring in III Age).
In the Third Age, there was a settlement of Durin's Folk there and a seat of the king since approximately 2200, TA till 2589, TA, when the Dwarves were for the most part were driven away by the Cold-drakes, a lesser breed of Dragons, yet horrible enough in their rage.

I would like to add that I agree with the idea to which some of ICE's writers have alluded: that not all of Durin's Folk dwelt in Khazad-dûm at its peak.
In addition to settling any dissension, this would have established Durin's line not only as the largest House, but also the one in which ran the blood of all seven of the fathers of the Dwarves.
Tolkien also tells us that Durin was granted a lifespan much longer than that of any other Dwarf, and was thereby known as Durin the Deathless.

Thrór was the first King of Durin's folk who lived in exile: after a cold-drake had killed Dáin I and Frór, only a part of Durin's folk joined him in the mines of Erebor, the greater part moving to the Iron Hills under Grór.
It is likely that the name Thror was influenced by the Norse God Thor, who also influenced the name of Thorin.
Tolkien's fantasy universe of Middle-earth, Thrór (2542 TA-2790 TA), was a Dwarf, the son of Dáin I and the father of Thráin II and brother to Frór and Grór.

Durin III was probably pretty stealthy on his own, but here he’s got his Dwarven folk with him.
Still, I know that Durin III was a strong Dwarf and invariably a smart Dwarf, so I in my deck design I surrounded him with a whole bunch of other Dwarves (seven to be exact), and some gimmicks courtesy of the Black Rider expansion.
Certainly Durin III wouldn’t care – as long as he had an axe in his hand and a few pints in his belly he’d be good to go.
