From time to time over the millennia, one among Durin's descendants would arise so similar in bearing to his ancient ancestor that he, too, would be given the name 'Durin'.
(Ruled to III 1980) The first King of Durin's Folk for whom we have specific dates was Durin VI, who ruled in Khazad-d& at the time the Balrog was awoken.
(Ruled 96 years to III 2385) He continued the rule of Durin's Folk in the Grey Mountains, and was succeeded by his son.

The name Durin, like other names of Tolkien's Dwarves, was taken from old Norse: this was later explained by the translation fiction: because Westron was translated with English, the language of Dale was translated with Old Norse.

Still, I know that Durin III was a strong Dwarf and invariably a smart Dwarf, so I in my deck design I surrounded him with a whole bunch of other Dwarves (seven to be exact), and some gimmicks courtesy of the Black Rider expansion.
Durin III was probably pretty stealthy on his own, but here he’s got his Dwarven folk with him.
Certainly Durin III wouldn’t care — as long as he had an axe in his hand and a few pints in his belly he’d be good to go.

All we really learn is that originally, the Durin killed by the Balrog was Durin III, not Durin VI.
This meant that Durin the last, son of Thorin III Stonehelm and grandson of Dáin II Ironfoot, and the king who resettled Moria, was the seventh of that name.
