 Ered Luin - Wikipedia

Tolkien writes that the Dwarves were willing to teach their language to Men but Men found it difficult to learn, and yet all the Dwarves were unwilling to give out their true names to non-Dwarves.
In "The Quest for Erebor" (Unfinished Tale) Christopher Tolkien collated fragments of texts his father had written in attempts to explain (mostly through Gandalf) how the expedition of Thorin and Company to Erebor was arranged in 2941.
The Dwarves of Ered Luin may have developed the most sophisticated civilization among their kind during the First Age because of their friendship with the Elves of Beleriand, whose civilization was the highest, most advanced culture in Middle-earth.

Although we cannot know for sure how extensive Eregion's influence was, the realm was in a position to trade with the Men of Eriador, the Elves of Lindon and the Vales of Anduin, the Dwarves of Ered Luin and the Misty Mountains, and Numenor.

 Beleriand - Wikipedia

We begin our journey at the entrance to what is shown on the maps of Middle Earth as the Gulf of Lune, but is correctly described in the text as a firth, or tidal estuary.
As shown in these photos, the Blue Mountains are really blue, no doubt due to salts of metal ores that have been mined extensively by the dwarves, some of whom still live here.
There is a wooded beach that might have been a good place for building ships, alongside a deep stream that may have been used to launch them, but there is now nothing like a harbor.

The two great Dwarf holds of Ered Luin, Nogrod and Belegost, were destroyed in the cataclysm at the end of the First Age; but the mountains themselves survived and the Dwarves rebuilt.
Themselves they named Khazâd, but the Sindar called them Naugrim....Far to the east were the most ancient dwellings of the Naugrim, but they had delved for themselves great halls and mansions, after the manner of their kind, in the eastern side of Ered Luin.

Nogrod's dwarves may have relocated in the region of the Ered Luin which bordered Harlindon, and this may be the second reason why the Sindar undertook their migrations into the East.
It was the Host of Nogrod which had sacked Menegroth, and the Dwarves of that city had slain Thingol.
This extension of Gil-galad's authority may be one of two reasons why princes like Oropher and Amdír led some of their people east.

However, Finrod was not the first to delve in those caves: it had first been inhabited by the Petty-Dwarves before they were driven out.
Inspired by Menegroth in Doriath, and seeking a hidden place from which to be safe from the forces of Morgoth, Finrod established it in the early years of the First Age, in the Caverns of Narog beneath the forested hills of Taur-en-Faroth on the western bank of Narog.

The Ultimate East Road Dog Breeds Information Guide and Reference
The western parts were built to facilitate the passage of companies of dwarf craftsmen (and later, their armed escort) across eastern Beleriand, before the sack of Doriath by the dwarfs of Nogrod ended their trade.
The Great East Road was originally laid by the Dwarves long before the First Age of the Sun, probably during the last Age of Stars, and ran from the Iron Hills through Rhovanion to Khazad-Dum, from which it continued across Eriador to the Ered Luin, and then on into Doriath in Beleriand.
On the western side of the Misty Mountains, after traversing the High Pass, the road continued to the Ered Luin, and this part ultimately became known as the Men-i-Naugrim or "Old Dwarf Road".

In the first days after the rising of the Sun, Ard-galen was a green plain with rich grass, reaching from Hithlum and the Ered Wethrin in the west to the Ered Luin in the east, and rising into highlands of Dorthonion in the south.
But the plain was laid waste by rivers of flame and poisonous gases in the Dagor Bragollach and renamed Anfauglith ("Gasping Dust").
Tolkien, Ard-galen ("Green Region"), later Anfauglith, was the wide green plain that lay north of the highlands of Dorthonion and south of Morgoth's fortress of Angband in the Iron Mountains, in the First Age.
