 LotR Fanatics Library: Brandir
Now the year passed and there was peace for a time in Brethil and Niniel was fully healed and had grown extremely fair, and Turambar could restrain himself no longer: he asked her hand in marriage.
But from the sword that he bore they knew him for who he truly was, the Mormegil  - the Black Sword of Nargothrond of whom tidings had even entered the secluded forest of Brethil.
Soon enough Glaurung himself issued out of Nargothrond and his fires could be seen from Brethil, so Turambar called out to all the people: "Therefore Men of Brethil, I go now to seek the belly of Glaurung, by what means I may, who will come with me?" (Unfinished Tales "Narn I Hîn Húrin").

It was he who told us, the woodsmen of Brethil, how it came to pass that their best warrior cast himself upon his own blade and how his wife became desperate enough to leap from Cabed-en-Arras.
Whatever evil she had fled, it had left her utterly destitute, even to the point of being incapable of telling us what had befallen her.
He would have us call him Turambar, the Master of Doom, and treat him as if he’d always lived among the people of Brethil.

While the more peaceful side of Brethil life was never focused upon by Tolkien, we know that the Haladin are a nature-loving people, and prone to wandering off through their forest at random, for the simple enjoyment of nature.
They spoke other languages haltingly, if at all, though they were quite fond of teaching their own tongue to outsiders.
Also, the Haladin were proud and confident of their protection of the forest, and held high morals, such as the keeping of oaths and promises.
