 SoV History
The First Emperor ruled the land of Arda under a concept of The Mandate of Virtue, which linked him to the hearts and minds of his people.
Consulting with his Immortals, the Emperor forged the Sword of Virtues from the magic of the Earthblood, and gave it the power of each of the Virtues that the peoples of Arda lived by.
The First Sovereign Emperor of Arda, created the Codex of Virtue, and set about the rules for living a good life.

 History & Evolution of Arda
The Curse or Doom of Mandos works out in tragic events throughout the history of the First Age in Middle-earth, in, for example, the tale of Beren and Lúuthien the Elf-maiden.
After the First Age of the Sun, there was a remnant of that race of Men called the Edain who allied themselves with the Elves in The Ware of The Jewels against Morgoth.
The historical context of J.R.R Tolkien's tale of Middle-Earth and the Undying Lands is so vast and complex that I have had to divide them into sixteen separate pages.

 Arda
Arda's principal part is the earth (Ambar or Imbar).
This idea will be fulfilled by Ilúvatar in the end, either by healing Arda, or by making a new Arda.
Through the Veins of the World, tunnels going from the Outer Sea below to the surface of the earth, Ulmo refreshed the waters on the surface and kept himself informed on what happened.

In the darkness of Arda already the Dwarves wrought great works, for even from the first days of their Fathers they had marvellous skill with metals and with stone; but in that ancient time iron and copper they loved to work, rather than silver or gold.
Depending on the event itself we can determine the lasting impact on history, there is no denying that the creation of Laurelin and Telperion is the single most significant event in Arda's History.

 Allinet.info :: The Silmarillion
The Silmarillion is the history of the rebellion of Feanor and his people against the gods, their exile in Middle-earth, and their war, hopeless despite all the heroisim of Elves and Men, against the great Enemy.
The title Silmarillion is shortened from Quenta Silmarillion, "The History of the Silmarils," the three great jewels created by Feanor, most gifted of the Elves, in which he imprisoned the light of the Two Trees that illumined Valinor, the land of the gods.
If, however, you want to read a book ABOUT "The Lord of the Rings" and the history of that created world, this is THE book for you.

 Contingencies of Doom
That is why the history of Middle-earth is different from earlier epics, from Greek heroism to the tragic leading roles in the Nibelungenring.
Now all of this is not to deny that destiny and doom play indeed a maior role in the history of Middle-earth.
When we state that an inhabitant of Arda was apparently doomed, we still have to explain why.

They value communication highly, which is illustrated in the name they gave themselves--Quendi-- which means ‘the speakers.’ Their greatest achievement in communication was teaching the Ents (the fierce tree creatures who crushed Saruman) to speak.
However, their strong points are valuable: they are extremely ambitious, and they have the Gift of Men: death, which will get them off Arda, the earth, to heaven.

But not until the End, when Fëanor shall return who perished ere the Sun was made, and sits now in the Halls of Awaiting and comes no more among his kin; not until the Sun passes and the Moon falls, shall it be known of what substance they were made.
All who dwelt in Aman were filled with wonder and delight at the work of Fëanor.
And Varda hallowed the Silmarils, so that thereafter no mortal flesh, nor hands unclean, nor anything of evil will might touch them, but it was scorched and withered; and Mandos foretold that the fates of Arda, earth, sea, and air, lay locked within them.

 The History of Middle-Earth
Justice worketh only within the bonds of things as they are, accepting the marring of Arda, and therefore though Justice is itself good and desireth no farther evil, it came but perpetuate the evil that was, and doth not prevent it from the bearing of fruit in sorrow.
For the evil and the grief of Death are in mere severance and breach of nature which is alike in both (or Death is not their name) ; and both occur only in Arda Marred, and accord with its processes.
Andreth asserted such an opinion to be false and the product of the Enemy’s lies, because it implied a sinful disregard for the body, whereas in every incarnate creature body and soul love one another mutually.

He has managed to create a history of a world in which great truths are made manifest, and in which legend plays its proper role of mirroring our own histories - and our own future.
It demonstrates Tolkien's breadth of knowledge in the realms of myth, poetry, linguistics, history, philosophy and theology.
If you enjoy The Mabinogion, the Norse sagas, Beowulf, the Old Testament, the tales of the Hindu gods, Arthurian myth, the epics of Ancient Greece then this book will appeal.

Articles - The Lord of the Rings
As his main work, Tolkien began to outline the history of Arda, telling tales of the Silmarils, and many other stories of how the races and situations that we read about in the Lord of the Rings trilogy came to be.
The story's titular character is the Dark Lord Sauron of Mordor.
The Lord of the Rings began as a personal exploration by Tolkien of his interests in philology, religion (particularly Roman Catholicism); fairy tales, and Norse and Celtic mythology.

But nor did anything the Valar made ever become exactly as they wanted, because of him.

A Speculative History of Music of Arda - THE TOLKIEN FORUM
Perhaps the evolution of music in the Renaissance ought to be thought of as the rediscovery of techniques and practices that were lost with the decline of Men and the departure of the Elves.
And it is quite incredible to suggest that such a situation existed not once in our history, but twice - once in the early Renaissance and once far, far earlier, before the rise of Rome or the fall of Troy.
In known musical history, there have been two periods that have decent claims to being the "height of polyphony," and two composers that have epitomized polyphony, each in his own way.

The Sillmarillion or The lays of Beleriand
Since I'm not a history or literature person, I do not plan to read HoME, because I find them to be more like history textbooks, and books about Tolkien's writing process.
Some of the HoME are like that too, but the Lays of Beleriand is just beautiful. It's made up of the story of the children of Hurin in alliterative verse, the lay of Leithian (the story of Beren and Luthien) in rhyming couplets, and a few other short poems.
I love all of them and if you are interested in the history then it's well worth reading them.

The Valaquenta (The Account of the Valar) and the rest of the Silmarillion is the book in which J.R.R. Tolkien told the story of the First, Second, and Third Ages of Arda and the Elves.
These three books, together with the 'Akallabeth' and 'Of the Third Age and the War of the Ring' form the greater story which is known simply as the 'Silmarillion'.

He arrived in South America a believer in the theory of Neptunism (all rocks are sedimentary in origin) and then became convinced of the correctness of Plutonism (mountains are formed by violent upheaval); some of his descriptions resemble those of Mordor and Mount Doom, written by Tolkien.
Similarities are demonstrated between Humboldt's account of his ascent of Chimborazo and the descriptions of the Misty Mountains in The Hobbit (HOB) and the Caradhras in LotR.
Von Humboldt's catastrophism is reflected in the history of Arda, where the transition between the Ages is marked by violent upheavals (the fall of the Lamps, the War of Wrath, the collapse of Númenor and the explosion of Mount Doom).

Tolkien refers to Tom as "a particular embodying of pure (real) natural science: the spirit that desires knowledge of other things, their history and nature, because they are 'other' and wholly independent of the enquiring mind."(16) This desire for knowledge is verbalized in an obscure poem called Once Upon A Time:

I knew what he had wrought, had seen it in dreams before it ever happened, and felt his malice bearing down upon me when he visited the eve before, smiling and secure in his knowledge that Pharazôn was doomed from the beginning and all of us with him.

As both the royal house and the Lords of Andúnië belong to the Line of Elros and have a prior history of intermarriage, it is not inconceivable that Míriel might have married Elendil had she not been forced by Pharazôn.

Martinez himself has woven Tolkien's loose threads into an unpublished, as-yet-untitled 600-page history book, complete with endnotes, citations, and appendixes.
The History thickened the reality of Middle-earth all the more, even as the series showed how much Tolkien tinkered with his story along the way (Frodo, for example, was initially saddled with the unfortunate name of Bingo).
By not finishing his great picture, he hoped to "leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama." Though Tolkien himself would not have always appreciated the results, those other minds and hands have been keeping busy.
