John Bunyan Preacher, Writer of Pilgrims Progress - Christian Biography Resources
All the world knows that Bunyan wrote The Pilgrim's Progress, in two parts, of which the first appeared at London in 1678, and was, at all events, begun during his imprisonment in 1676; the second in 1684.
The Pilgrim's Progress is the most successful allegory ever written, and like the Bible is adapted to man in every clime.
There are several noteworthy collections of editions of the Pilgrim's Progress, e.g., in the British Museum, and in the New York Public Library, collected by the late James Lenox.

Amazon.com: The Pilgrim's Progress from This World, To That Which Is toCome (Penguin Classics): Books: John ...
The Pilgrim's Progress is one of my favorite books and was originally written by a 17th-century Puritan, John Bunyan, from his cell prison in a trying time of persecution.
It tells the story of a pilgrim named Christian as he walked a journey from the City of Destruction (where he lived before his conversion) to the Celestial City (an allegory of heaven), sharing with us the many challenges, obstacles, comfort, and encouragement Christian encountered in his long journey.
The progress of textual corruption had continued through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, despite several attempts to provide scholarly editions.

The Pilgrims hoped to make their Christian settlement "a city upon a hill," in the famous words of William Bradford, second governor of the Plymouth Colony.
About the only true thing in the whole mythology is that these pitiful European strangers would not have survived their first several years in 'New England' were it not for the aid of Wampanoag people."
Nor, he said, did the Pilgrims and Puritans "believe that sex was solely for the purpose of procreation" — although there was plenty of procreating among the early colonists, who tended to marry young and have lots of babies.

Divided Christians ought to "yearn" for one another as St Paul yearned for the Christians of Philippi: "God is my witness how I long for you all in the heart of Christ Jesus".
Unless we "yearn" for this great gift of God, we are very unlikely to do anything to bring it about.
The characteristic of "unity pilgrims", their gift to the Church, is a dynamic "yearning" for the unity of Christians.

Between 1630 and 1640 more than 18,000 English Puritans fled to America.
