Stephen King is the author of more than thirty books, all of them worldwide bestsellers.
But perhaps his story really starts in 1949 when Donald King, later described by his wife as not having a great deal of stick-to-it in his nature, went out for a pack of cigarettes and disappeared from the lives of his wife and two children forever.
The King family settled in a modest home in Durham which was about a quarter-mile away from the home of Oren and Ethelyn Flaws.

The A to Z of Author Stephen King
Despite the fact that King is a giant of a man at 6 foot 4 and 200 pounds, and that he's been happy giving the rest of the world the heebie-jeebies all these years, King has many phobias of his own.
King's collection, now in paperback and first published in late 1999, has five tales of childhood and college days in the 1960s, intertwined so that it reads more like a novel than a collection of novellas.
In the book the story is told by the main character herself and delivers piece by piece the details of her life with an abusive and drunken husband.

 Stephen King Biography
King's next idea came from the poem by Robert Browning, "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came." He found bright colored green paper in the library and began work on The Dark Tower saga.
A year later King's amateur press Triad and Gaslight Books, published a two part book titled "The Star Invaders".
And in the fall of 1971, King took a teaching job at Hampden Academy earning $6,400 a year.

 Stephen King
Stephen Barry King doesn't seem the devil his adversaries claim him to be.
King complains, and rightly so, that some of the worst-and most inaccurate-allegations against him come from people who have never met him, nor bothered to find out if the horror stories they tell about him hold any more credence than the plot of Pet Sematary.
King describes himself as an animal lover (he says he's unable to watch the hunting scene in Bambi) who bought his first dog at age 15 and has been training canines ever since.

What is of tremendous interest is King's analysis of his contemporary writers, who have been so gracious as to discuss their own works with him.
In my edition King says "it is propably his best work." Then some 20-30 pages later he states "eventhough this is not Brabury's best book..." This is not word for word, but it comes down to the same point.
Hilariously, somewhere along the way King dismisses Pauline Kael as one of those stodgy critics more in love with her syntax than her content: he'd have done well to study her long-form essays a bit harder before attempting a book full of them himself.

Stephen King and Richard Bachman Personal Information
Much of King's early works were science fiction based, but because he lacked the scientific grounding, they tended to be a bit thin on detail, but still excellent for someone of his age.
The acceptance of Salems Lot, initially titled "Second Coming", as King's second book was enough to type King as a horror writer, but this did not seem to worry him.
Alas, Stephens mother Nellie, lived only long enough to learn of the acceptance of Carrie, but not long enough to actually see it in print.
