"Testament of Youth" is a wonderful book, one which you will read again and again, and all the more moving because it is a true story.
First published in 1933, Testament of Youth established Brittain as one of the best-loved authors of her time.
If you are wondering what happens to her, she wrote a "sequel" of sorts titled "Testament of Experience", which chronicles the years 1933-1950.

She selects the latter and so her fate is determined: "Now this woman," warns the tale, "was the destiny of poor Catherine." And we find as we delve deeper into the book that she was the destiny of poor Vera too.
Brittain, a pacifist since her First World War experiences, prefaces the book with a fairy tale, in which Catherine, the heroine, encounters a fairy godmother and is given the choice of having either a happy youth or a happy old age.
I have just finished reading 'Testament of Youth' and thought you could hardly better the sense of experience, personal and national, that comes out of it.

The Sun Also Rises is also a long prose narrative with a plot and characters, tells of the character's adventures in a remote setting, with some melodramatic events.
Taken in this context, one can see that both Testament of Youth and The Sun Also Rises fall under this category.
So, I guess in answer to my question, both books are romance novels, they are just different forms, but equally interesting and enjoyable.

For instance, Todd tells of one young lady in South Texas, who gave her copy to a gang leader, who afterward gave his life to Christ and invited his entire gang to come to church with him.

In addition to Testament of Youth, novels such as The Dark Tide (1923) and Not without Honour (1924) uniquely survey the battlefield through a female lens.
Vera Brittain is perhaps best known as the author of Testament of Youth, an autobiographical account of her experiences as a Volunteer Aid Detachment (vad) nurse during the First World War.
Noting that Brittain's feminism is the 'connecting thread' of her biography, Gorham illuminates how Brittain translated her experiences as a vad into narratives that radically challenged the profusion of Great War literature appearing in the 1920s which offered only male perspectives.

TESTAMENT OF YOUTH - Based upon the 1933 autobiography of Vera Brittain, the five-part British miniseries Testament of Youth starred Cheryl Campbell in the central role.
The miniseries created a stir in the U.S. because of its mild nudity and profanity; the presentation had to be re-edited when it was shown for a second time on PBS.
The series detailed her experiences as a nurse in London, France, and Malta, the loss of those whom she held most dear, and her efforts to pick up the pieces in the years following the war.
