Amazon.com: Books: The Farthest Shore (The Earthsea Cycle, Book 3)
Shores shares with both Wizard and Atuan a coming-of-age theme, in this case it is Arren, a young prince who has come to Roke to tell Ged and the Master Wizards that magic is bleeding away in his land only to learn that the same is true all over Earthsea.
The Farthest Shore is the third book in the Earthsea series, and the concluding one for several decades.
I'm not giving anything away by telling you that the farthest shore is physical - the western shore of the westernmost isle of Earthsea and metaphysical - death.

 Earthsea
The original Trilogy was composed of A Wizard of Earthsea (1968), The Tombs of Atuan (1971), and The Farthest Shore (1972).
Written 18 years later, Tehanu: The Last Book of Earthsea, follows immediately upon the end of The Farthest Shore as Ged, bereft of his magical ability, returns to the island of Gont on which he was born and on which Tenar now lives.
The first three books were primarily coming of age tales.

puritybrown: Reviews of Tehanu and The Other Wind
Tehanu is concerned with the difficulty of coming to terms with not having power -- in Tenar's case because she refused to learn magic as a young woman, in Ged's case because he used all his magic up in healing a breach in reality.
The Farthest Shore is about a use of magic that Should Not Be, namely the attempt to achieve immortality.
Yes, because the novel is beautifully-written, the characters are alive and real, the themes are well-integrated into the fabric of the story.

The Farthest Shore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Farthest Shore is the third of a series of books written by Ursula K. Le Guin and set in her fantasy archipelago of Earthsea.
Spoiler warning: In addition to plot and/or ending details about The Farthest Shore, such spoilers for A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, and Tehanu follow.
In 1990, seventeen years after the publication of The Farthest Shore, Le Guin opted for the second ending when she continued the story in Tehanu.

Arren accompanies the Archmage on his investigations and becomes a true man on the farthest shore.
The Earthsea Trilogy is actually five books (at the time of this writing): A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, and The Other Wind.
There is another book of stories that take place in Earthsea, Tales From Earthsea, indeed, I would recommend that you read it, as it sets up The Other Wind but I don't know if I would consider it part of the "Trilogy".

All these books tell tales around the character of Ged, born as a goatherd, and destined to become the mightiest mage of his time.
The story comes full circle in this regard, and a much older and much wiser Ged is now able to cast the reflections of his learned wisdom through his teaching of Arren.

From the moment Ged unleashes an undead spirit into the world to his fateful journey into the Dry Land, he is forced to truly understand the nature of evil and how it develops in men --- feeding on fear, pride, lust and greed.
Like A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA and THE TOMBS OF ATUAN, the third book of the Earthsea tetralogy examines the delicate balance between life and death.
Arren's father is also a wizard and fears that some evil is at work in the West Reach: "Spells have no power and wizardry is forgotten there." Convinced that all of Earthsea is in danger, Ged leaves his post as Archmage and goes on a dangerous quest with Arren to the end of the world.

Le Guin may be working with the same characters, but her attitude towards them and Earthsea has become more complicated.

Ursula K. Le Guin ~ Housewives in Space
Le Guin has identified Lao Tzu and the Tao Te Ching as one of the great permanent influences on her life and work, and it is easy to see, as far back as the wisdom Ged imparts to Arren who will be king, in The Farthest Shore, that this is so.
Shambala Publications has now published her redaction (not a translation, since she has no Chinese) of this little masterpiece into a series of poems.
First, a novel about a boy meant to be a wizard, then a girl meant to be a priestess/queen, then a third that shows the wizard training a secular power (some would say that's an odd summary of The Farthest Shore, which won the National Book Award in 1972).
