Evidently the Armenian derivation given above comes from confusing the name with Asdghig, which is an Armenian name meaning "little star" that was also the name of an ancient Armenina goddess of love.
The 'strength' meaning comes from confusing fríðr with thríðr 'strength'.

Azog was the name of an Orc chieftain who lived in Moria from about 2480 to 2799 Third Age.
In the following years he was the common enemy of all Dwarves, and the war he started climaxed in the Battle of Azanulbizar, where he killed Náin, but was himself slain by Náin& son Dáin.
He started the War of the Dwarves and Orcs in 2790 T.A. by killing Thrór, who came to revisit the ruins of Khazad-dûm.
