Middle-earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien translated "Middle Earth" as Endor (or sometimes Endóre) and Ennor in the Elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin, respectively.
Tolkien insisted that Middle-earth is (part of) our Earth in several of his letters, in one of them (no. 211) estimating the end of the Third Age to about 6,000 years before his own time.
Tolkien stated that the geography of Middle Earth was intended to align with that of our real Earth in several particulars.

Books about J.R.R. Tolkien - The Real Middle-earth by Brian Bates - critical review and essay
J.R.R. Tolkien books on Middle Earth, like The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings, are told as if the story takes place in a real existing place in a time long forgotton.
The Real Middle Earth presents a fine tour through the mythology of early medieval England, based on an original and compelling use of archaeological and literary sources.
The simularities between the real middle earth and Tolkiens Middle Earth are very obvious.

Wizards (Middle-earth) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Two of these, the Blue Wizards, went into the East and do not come into the stories of Middle-earth.
Tolkien, the Wizards of Middle-earth are a small group of beings outwardly resembling Men but possessing much greater physical and mental power.
It is hinted in the essay in Unfinished Tales that the Blue Wizards (see below) may have fallen prey to these temptations.

The Blue Wizards Lord of the Rings Fanatics Library
The Blue Wizards are said to have come with him to Middle-earth, but again, they were not sent to bolster Elrond's forces, but rather to weaken Sauron's, to disestablish his influence in the East.
However, in 1996, when the twelfth book of the History of Middle Earth, The Peoples of Middle-Earth, was published, a new perspective on the Blue Wizards was revealed--a perspective that ran against the very information contained in essentially all previous sources on the two missing wizards.
In it, Gandalf is stated to be the only successful Istar, which first hints at the idea that the Blue Wizards failed their mission: "Indeed, of all the Istari, only one remained faithful, and he was the last-comer" (Unfinished Tales).
